Screenshot it.
Foto takes it from there.
Foto lives in your Mac's menu bar. Screenshot a flyer, a chat or a booking, and Foto reads it, checks your calendars and offers to put it on Google Calendar. One click, and it shows you that it worked.
Free for now with your own Anthropic API key.
For Macs with Apple silicon, on macOS 14 or later.
Try it: drag across the flyer, the chat or the meme, the way you would with ⌘⇧4.
From screenshot to calendar in three steps.
-
You take a screenshot
Of anything: a flyer, a group chat, a booking email. Foto notices it the moment it lands in your screenshot folder.
-
Foto reads it
Your Mac reads the text on the device, then Claude works out what should happen because you saved it.
-
You say yes
A small card at the top right says what it found and where it would go. One click adds it, and Undo is right there.
It checks before it asks.
Before Foto offers anything, it looks at your calendars around that time, at what you have already saved, and at the screenshot's own words. Drag the dinner, or use Earlier and Later, and watch the checks change. Your calendars are read on your Mac and never sent to Claude.
It shows you what it read.
Every suggestion comes with the words Foto found, how sure it is, and how much it seems to matter. Foto keeps those three apart, so a confident guess about something trivial never looks urgent.
A home for everything you saved.
Foto's window keeps your screenshots in order: what still needs you, the loose ends coming up, and a memory you can search. A screenshot is kept while it is useful and set aside when its moment passes. Your original files are never touched.
Mail Sense, if you want it.
Switch it on and Foto reads new mail in Mail, keeps the few messages that need you, and runs them through the same checks as a screenshot. It is off until you turn it on, skips newsletters, and reads at most 20 messages a day.
Careful by default.
Foto handles your calendar, so it is built to be trusted with it.
Your Mac reads first
Text recognition runs on the device before anything else happens.
Your calendars stay on your Mac
Foto checks them locally and never sends them to Claude.
Nothing happens without you
Calendar events, contacts and trips always ask first. Other actions run on their own only if you switch them on.
A screenshot can't give orders
Text in an image is treated as data, never as an instruction, so a screenshot can't make Foto do anything.
It never claims what it didn't do
"Added" means your calendar confirmed it. Anything Foto adds can be undone.
Your originals are never touched
Foto keeps its own copy and never edits or deletes your screenshot files.
Free for now. Bring your own key.
Foto is free while it is early. You connect it to Claude with your own Anthropic API key, and Anthropic bills your account directly for the screenshots Foto reads. In our tests a screenshot cost about 3 cents with Claude Opus 5.
- Make a key in the Claude Console. Any name works; try Foto.
- Add a little credit under Billing. API use is prepaid.
- Paste it into Foto. Foto checks it with Anthropic before keeping it, then stores it in your Mac's Keychain.
Download Foto for Mac.
- A Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or later)
- macOS 14 Sonoma or later
- An Anthropic API key, which Set up walks you through
Not for Intel Macs, Windows or iPhone yet.
Opening it the first time
- Open the download and drag Foto into Applications.
- Open Foto. macOS shows "Foto" Not Opened and says Apple could not verify it is free of malware. Click Done.
- Open System Settings, then Privacy & Security. Scroll down to Security, where it says Foto was blocked, and click Open Anyway.
- Confirm with your password or Touch ID, then choose Open Anyway once more. macOS remembers this.
- Foto opens Set up. Paste your Anthropic key, then take a screenshot.
On macOS 14 you can instead Control-click Foto in Applications and choose Open.
macOS also asks before Foto can see your Desktop folder and your calendars, and asks about Mail only if you turn on Mail Sense.

Questions
Is Foto really free?
Yes, for now. Foto itself costs nothing. Reading screenshots uses Claude through your own Anthropic API key, and Anthropic bills your account for that use. Later you'll be able to sign in with a Claude account or choose a Foto plan, and pricing comes then.
Why do I need my own API key?
Foto uses Claude to understand screenshots. Until account sign-in and plans arrive, your own key is how Foto reaches Claude. Making one takes a couple of minutes in the Claude Console, and Foto's Set up walks you through it.
What does Foto send to Anthropic?
The screenshot it is reading and the text found in it, sent with your key. Never your calendars and never your other files. Your key stays in your Mac's Keychain and only ever goes to Anthropic.
Will it add things to my calendar without asking?
No. Calendar events, contacts and trips always ask first, and other kinds of action run on their own only if you switch them on in Settings.
Does it work with Apple Calendar too?
Yes. Foto writes to the calendars your Mac already syncs, with Google first. If your Google account isn't on your Mac, Foto opens the event in Google Calendar for you to save.
Does Foto delete my screenshots?
No. It never edits or deletes your original files. It keeps its own copy, which you can remove at any time.
Is there a version for Windows, Intel Macs or iPhone?
Not yet. Foto runs on Macs with Apple silicon and macOS 14 or later. Join the waitlist to hear about new versions.
Why does macOS warn me when I open it?
Foto is not notarized by Apple yet, so the first time macOS shows "Foto" Not Opened. Click Done, then go to System Settings, Privacy & Security, and click Open Anyway next to Foto. macOS remembers your choice. Until Foto is notarized, an update may ask for its permissions again.
